Previewing The Tweed Valley Canoe Trail

I hinted in my ‘Springing open for 2024’ blog that the Tweed Valley Canoe Trail was set to be one of the biggest bits of news for visitors to The South of Scotland this year. This week Go Tweed Valley have launched the website, giving full details of the stunning route, as well as how to negotiate it safely, responsibly and mindfully. The micro site created by Go Tweed Valley is a typically classy and thoughtful piece of work - hats of to Rich Rowe and Lindsay Quayle for their work on this. Exactly the sort of project this CIC was put together to deliver. They are putting the Tweed in Tweed Valley!

The route starts at Stobo and ends 30 miles later at Gala Foot, just past Abbotsford. My hope (shared by the organisers) is that people will take 2 or 3 days to savour the route, stopping to explore the region and the many attractions on route.

So what’s next? Expect a bit of a splash (sorry) in the press with previews and reviews in March, before the trail formally launches in April for the peak tourist season. I will be trying sections of the route out later in the year, keep an eye on the socials for my soggy exploits. And of course for anyone visiting the area to sample the trail who may be reading this, the Tweed Valley Blogger back catalogue is on hand to hopefully add to the richness of your experience in this great wee corner of Scotland.

For now, I heartily recommend checking out the site for yourself by clicking below and starting to plan your adventure on the mighty River Tweed…
