Four cyclists riding on a narrow path surrounded by green trees and bushes, with a traffic sign showing a speed limit of 20 and a request to drive carefully, and text overlay reading 'Eddleton to Peebles (Eastgate)'.

Distance & Time: 5 miles/35 Minutes

Approx. Breakdown: Segregated, Shared Path (95%), Quiet Streets (5%), Busy Streets (>1%)

Description: Leave Eddleston on the 2023 built path which follows the busy road but feels safe throughout. Watch out for layby section near Milkieston which is shared with vehicles. On arriving in Peebles, follow Crossburn Farm Road to find Cuddyside Path. This is a wee delight, but is popular with pedestrians who you must give way to (check out the Active Travel hierarchy). It can be followed into town by way of Cuddyside (shared with cars) and eventually Bridgegate and Eastgate which are both very busy with potentially dangerous road users (i.e. motor vehicles)

Parking: Peebles is a case of good but could do better! They do provide space for four bikes on the High Street, opposite the Milkman coffee shop. Imagine if the powers that be were bold enough to give up another car parking space or two for bike parking, something which always creates noise but is proven to be healthy for High Streets.

Fuel: Peebles has a Scottish Water tap on Tweed Green. Lots of food options in Peebles and Eddleston, including the Scots Pine, accessible via segregated cycle track to he north of the village.

Car Count: Medium. Very good until you reach Peebles, then a few shared sections.

Map: Not available - Google does not recognise the Eddleston cycle path.
