A tour which can depart from in and around Edinburgh, or anywhere in The Borders, our Hadrian’s Wall and Roman Britain Tour brings the past to life. We will depart at 09:00 and return to your agreed drop off at around 18:00. Like all our Driver Guided Tours, the day will be tailored to you.

Hadrian’s Wall is the world famous highpoint of both a World Heritage Site and UK National Park, but this tour brings you so much more. Leaving through The Scottish Borders, we will pass huge Iron Age hillforts and a Medieval Abbey before crossing into England, on the route of a Roman Road. Soon we arrive in Hadrian’s Wall country - and discover the echoes of a civilisation. We will visit Temples and Forts, learn about what happened after the Romans left and, for the climax of the day, walk alongside Hadrian’s Wall itself.

Departing from Edinburgh, we will head on the A68 road (which follows the Roman Road of Dere Street for much of its length), south into The Borders. Here we have the option to visit the recently opened Trimontium Musuem to learn about the Roman invasion, and the Celtic tribespeople in Britain at the time. After a brief stop at Jedburgh Abbey, we cross into England and the Northumberland National Park at Carter Bar. Our journey south takes us to Hadrian’s Wall Country. Here, we will visit the fascinating Temple of Mithras and will have visits to both Vindolanda Roman Fort and The Sill (National Landscape Centre). The day climaxes at Cawfield Crags where we have the opportunity to walk along one of the finest sections of The Wall. Throughout you will be entertained by a guide who is passionate about the history and landscape of this corner of the country. A day to remember!

The tour is customisable to you, we will have many different options for stops and attractions which we will discuss on the day, taking weather conditions and all other factors into consideration. Entry fees to Trimontium and Vindolanda are not included in the quoted price for the tour.
